Fishing & Crabbing
Port Smith Lagoon is the best spot for anyone who loves to fish. You can cast straight off the beach, from the rocks, or launch your boat into the lagoon and nearby creeks.
You’ll often catch bluebone, threadfin salmon, mangrove jack, bream and if you’re lucky, even a mud crab or two.
Spend a day by the water, enjoy the tides, and you might just bring home dinner.


Visit Gourdon Bay
Accessible by 4WD, Gourdon Bay is a beautiful spot to spend the day. Swim in the calm waters at high tide or stroll along the beach and rocky shoreline as the tide goes out. The bay is well known for fishing, with Trevally and Queenfish often caught from the cliffs. Bring a picnic and enjoy the views, or set off on one of the two walking trails from the carpark to take in the area’s scenery, history, and wildlife.

Saddle Hill Cliffs
Saddle Hill is the perfect place to watch the sunset, take a coastal walk, and enjoy fishing off the cliffs. From June to September, it’s also one of the best whale watching spots in the area, with sweeping ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere.


Cowrie Creek
Cowrie Creek is one of the southernmost points you can reach by 4WD and a favourite for fishing and crabbing. Try for mangrove jack in the creek or search the banks for mudcrabs, then relax by the reef just offshore. Surrounded by beautiful mangrove systems, it’s the perfect place to explore. Head further towards the ocean and you’ll reach Pebble Beach with its sweeping coastal views.

Cowrie Beach
Cowrie Beach is a hidden gem reached by continuing past Cowrie Creek. A favourite for regulars, it’s the perfect spot to watch the stunning sunset sizzle into the ocean while casting a line. With sweeping ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s a beautiful place to relax and take in the coast. Be sure to bring recovery gear for the drive in.
